Hybrid VTOL fixed-wing UAV

A VTOL drone that takes off anywhere and stays up six hours

This hybrid VTOL fixed-wing drone lifts off vertically on four rotors from unprepared ground; a pusher propeller then carries it out to 300 km on the wing. No runway, no catapult, no launch crew.

How the flight works

01 / Flight profile
PHASE 01
Vertical launch

Lifts off from a clearing, a rooftop or a moving vehicle. Two operators, under ten minutes from case to air.

PHASE 02
Transition to cruise

Lift rotors stop, the pusher takes over and the wing carries the load — the efficient part of the mission.

PHASE 03
Precision recovery

Automatic hover-and-land on the launch point or an alternate, including after link loss.

Sea level to alpine, day and night

Qualified from −20 °C to +50 °C, with icing-tolerant airframe finish and wind tolerance to 15 m/s at launch.

02 / Specification

Three configurations, from mapping to long-range ISR

A light VTOL mapping drone, a mid-range ISR build and a long-range configuration share one airframe. Range and endurance follow the payload and battery pack, confirmed per order.

Payloads

03 / Sensors
Zoom camera

Stabilised daylight channel with 30× optical zoom and laser rangefinder for target coordinates.

Zoom + thermal

Dual EO/IR channels in one turret — daylight zoom and thermal imaging, switchable in flight.

LiDAR + zoom

Survey-grade point clouds alongside a zoom channel — mapping and observation in one sortie.

04 / Autonomy

Flies the mission when the link drops

The autopilot navigates without GNSS, the vision stack keeps tracking, and the aircraft returns on its own.

01
GNSS-denied navigation

Visual-inertial positioning holds the route under jamming and spoofing.

02
Onboard computer vision

Detection, classification and tracking without an operator in the loop.

03
Simulator training

Crews train on the same ground station interface they fly with.

Typical missions

Wide-area ISR

Persistent watch over a sector with coordinate handoff to ground units.

Border & coastal patrol

Long legs over water and terrain with no forward infrastructure.

Powerline inspection

Hundreds of kilometres of corridor surveyed in a single sortie.

Topographic survey

LiDAR and photogrammetry deliverables for engineering and mining.

Artillery correction

Stabilised optics with rangefinder for observed fire and damage assessment.

Search & rescue

Thermal search over forest, water and rubble, launched from the roadside.

Hybrid VTOL vs multirotor vs conventional fixed wing

05 / Class comparison

The hybrid layout pays a weight penalty for carrying lift rotors it does not use in cruise. In return it removes the runway, the launcher and the recovery gear — which is why a fixed-wing VTOL UAV is the usual choice when the launch point is a field, a rooftop or a vehicle.

VTOL drone FAQ

FAQ

What is a hybrid VTOL fixed-wing drone?

An aircraft that takes off and lands vertically on lift rotors and flies the mission on a wing. On the Orbit UAV VTOL four rotors handle launch and recovery, then a pusher propeller takes over for cruise. It needs no runway, catapult or recovery net, yet keeps the range of a fixed-wing UAV.

How far can a VTOL UAV fly?

It depends on the configuration. The VT-60 covers 60 km with 2 hours of endurance, the VT-120 covers 120 km with 3.5 hours, and the VT-300 covers 300 km with 6 hours. Range and endurance follow the payload and battery pack and are confirmed per order.

What payloads does the VTOL drone carry?

Three standard options: a stabilised zoom camera with 30× optical zoom and laser rangefinder, a dual EO/IR turret with zoom and thermal channels, and a LiDAR plus zoom payload for survey work. Payload capacity is 2 kg, 4 kg or 8 kg depending on configuration.

Does a fixed-wing VTOL drone need a runway or launcher?

No. It lifts off vertically from a clearing, a rooftop or a moving vehicle and lands automatically on the launch point or an alternate. Two operators take it from case to air in under ten minutes.

Can it fly when GPS is jammed?

Yes. Visual-inertial positioning holds the route under GNSS jamming and spoofing, and the aircraft returns and lands on its own after link loss.

What weather can it operate in?

The airframe is qualified from −20 °C to +50 °C, has an icing-tolerant finish and tolerates wind up to 15 m/s at launch.
