Fixed-wing VTOL UAV for energy inspection

A powerline inspection drone that covers the whole corridor in one sortie

Transmission lines run for hundreds of kilometres through terrain with no roads and no runways. A fixed-wing VTOL UAV launches vertically beside the line, flies the corridor on the wing and lands back on the same spot — with a zoom, thermal or LiDAR payload in the bay.

Why a fixed-wing VTOL UAV for energy inspection

01 / Fit
Corridor length

A multirotor inspects one span at a time. A wing-borne aircraft cruising at 90 to 120 km/h covers the corridor between substations in a single flight.

No launch infrastructure

Vertical take-off from an access track, a substation yard or a vehicle. Two operators, under ten minutes from case to air.

One airframe, three sensors

30× zoom for hardware detail, a dual EO/IR turret for hot joints and vegetation, LiDAR plus zoom for clearance surveys.

Which configuration for which line

02 / Configuration

Three configurations share one airframe. Figures are the published specification; range and endurance follow the payload and battery pack and are confirmed per order.

Inspection tasks

03 / Missions
Visual line patrol

Stabilised 30× zoom on conductors, insulators and tower hardware from a safe stand-off.

Thermal survey

The thermal channel shows temperature anomalies on joints, clamps and transformers; EO and IR switch in flight.

Vegetation and clearance

LiDAR point clouds of the corridor for encroachment and sag analysis.

Post-storm assessment

Fast damage reconnaissance over a long section when roads are blocked.

Substation and plant overwatch ↗

Scheduled perimeter and rooftop passes — see critical infrastructure.

Solar and wind sites

Wide-area coverage of dispersed generation assets from one launch point.

Frequently asked questions

FAQ

Why use a fixed-wing VTOL UAV for powerline inspection instead of a multirotor?

Coverage. A multirotor spends its battery holding itself in the air, so it inspects a few kilometres per flight. A fixed-wing VTOL flies on the wing and covers hundreds of kilometres of corridor in a single sortie, while still taking off and landing vertically.

What sensors are used for energy infrastructure inspection?

A stabilised zoom camera for visual detail, a dual EO/IR turret for thermal anomalies, and a LiDAR plus zoom payload for corridor mapping and clearance measurement.

How long a line can one flight cover?

The published range is 60 km for the VT-60, 120 km for the VT-120 and 300 km for the VT-300. Usable corridor length depends on the flight plan, the payload and the data link, and is planned per project.

Can it fly in cold or windy conditions?

The airframe is qualified from −20 °C to +50 °C, has an icing-tolerant finish and tolerates wind up to 15 m/s at launch.
